Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People?
April 25, 2007 12:48 PM PDT
This is a sermon I preached at Grand Central. It was a part of a series Joe planned called "Frequently Asked Questions". Really it's an exploration of the question of evil.
December 18, 2006 12:36 PM PST
This is a sermon I preached around Christmas at Grand Central.
October 19, 2006 11:02 AM PDT
This is a lesson I did that deals with the temptation to use power and force to advance the Kingdom of God.
September 19, 2006 09:00 AM PDT
This is a sermon I preached at Grand Central in conjuction with a presentation on a Hurricane relief trip we took to New Orleans. In it I deal with the nature of the people of God.
September 06, 2006 12:11 PM PDT
This is the second lesson in the two part series I was asked to do for OVU. I was very happy with how this one turned out, although for some reason the first two minutes didn't record.
September 06, 2006 11:35 AM PDT
I was asked to do a 2 part series on this topic. In the first lesson, I discuss tolerance, narrowmindedness and a third way that Paul seems to advocate and model.
August 29, 2006 09:56 PM PDT
This is the last lesson in the "End of the World as We Know It". Here we work out the implications of what we have already discussed as it relates to resurrection and judgement
August 23, 2006 11:07 AM PDT
This is lesson 2 of the "End of the World" series. Here we explore where the story of scripture, and thereby the story we live in, is going.
August 11, 2006 08:38 AM PDT
This is the first lesson in a series I'm teaching called "The End of the World as We Know It". In this lesson I discuss the beginning of the story (creation), which is crucial if you want to understand the "end". Lesson 2 will be on "The End?" and Lesson 3 will deal with the concept of judgment. I'm guessin that the perspective I'm presenting will be new to many of my students and listeners. I'm not really happy with the sound quality on this one. I'll use a better mic next week.

This is a Wednesday Night lesson I did for my youth group. The basic concept is that either Jesus offers the best life possible on earth or he's a liar and we should disregard everything he says.
May 24, 2006 01:20 PM PDT
This is the lesson I preached at Grand Central for Graduation Sunday. It deals with the concept of Truth in the context of faith.
April 26, 2006 01:07 PM PDT
This is a class I taught for adults at an event Grand Central hosted. In it I discuss a model for how faith develops and how we can respond to each stage to encourage growth. I also briefly discuss the postmodern transition and it's effect on the faith of the next generation. Finally tell an extremely brief version of the narrative of scripture.

This is my last recording of Brian McLaren from the Kairos Gathering. There was one more session, but I had to come home early to attend a funeral, so I didn't get it. In this session, McLaren does a general Q & A. He covers subjects like the atonement, inclusion/exclusion, diversity in the emerging church, and more. Really interesting stuff. Later in the week I'll be posting a class I taught adults this weekend called "Faith Development and The Story of God" and a class I taught Sunday morning called "Fireproof: When (if ever) does a child of God fall from Grace".
April 21, 2006 07:05 AM PDT
This is the second session I recorded at the Kairos Gathering. Keith Matthews is the main presenter. To be honest, I had never really heard of him before, but through this presentation and through getting to know him over a couple of days, I am very, very impressed by the guy. In this session, Keith talks about our personal Spiritual Formation, particularly as ministers and church leaders. This is really worth listening to.
April 20, 2006 07:02 AM PDT
This is session one from a small retreat called Kairos. I know it is unusual for me to post it here, but I didn't teach this week and this is extremely good stuff. To my knowledge, these are the only recordings of this event. The speaker for this session is Brian McLaren, and he is speaking on spiritual formation in communities/churches. Tomorrow I plan on posting a session by Keith Matthews on Spiritual Formation in individuals (particularly those in ministry), and Monday I plan on posting a Q & A session with McLaren (which was excellent). There was one more session, but I left the retreat early to attend a funeral and wasn't there to record it. Enjoy.
April 05, 2006 10:00 AM PDT
This is session 3 of our class for the OVU Lectures. In this one we deal with finding the "Controlling Idea" of your youth ministry (or any ministry, for that matter); the question of where "the story" of God, us, and creation is going; and we share a few resources that we've found valuable. CLICK HERE for our resource list.
April 04, 2006 09:10 AM PDT
This is the 2nd session of the class Matt and I are doing for the OVU lectures. In this one we deal with the ideas of narrative and being missional. Enjoy. More tommorow.
April 03, 2006 09:09 AM PDT
This is the first session of a class session that Matt Wilson and I are teaching at the Ohio Valley University Lectures this week. We will be teaching through Wednesday and will post each day. The series deals with youth ministry in a postmodern culture.

This is the 3rd Lesson in the "Are We Supposed To Do That?" series. This week I dealt with Confronting a brother or sister in Christ who are embracing sin. I was having a little technical problem with the equipment that messed up the audio a bit in places. I edited it some, but it's still kind of irritating. I think I have fixed the problem though, and it shouldn't be an issue for future episodes. Also, I've lowered the bitrate, which I hope will work better.
March 16, 2006 08:07 AM PST
This is the second lesson in the "Are We Supposed To Do That?" Series. In it, I discuss Biblical worship postures, and what is appropriate and inappropriate in the worship of God from a Biblical Standpoint (don't jump to conclusions, listen to it first). AE
March 14, 2006 07:28 AM PST
This is a sermon I co-preached with our minister Joe Spivy. It is technically the second lesson in a series he is doing on Mission and Identity, but it stands alone quite well. Joe told me to "do the theological part" and he would handle the application. I was really pleased with the outcome and we got some great feedback. Hope you enjoy it. In addition to mission and identity, we hit on "Christian entitlement", How your view of Creation affects your view of the church, and other relevant topics. Give it a listen and let me know what you think.

This is the first lesson in a series I'm doing called "Are We Supposed To Do That?". In this series, I intend to deal with a few historic and Biblical Christian practices that may seem odd to contemporary people, especially teens. In this first lesson we discuss "Fasting". What is it? Why did people do it? How do people do it? Should I be doing it?
February 24, 2006 10:48 AM PST
This is a lesson I did this morning at Ohio Valley University's Chapel. It's based on the story of the "woman caught in adultery" in John. It went really well and lots of people stuck around to discuss it with me afterwards.
February 22, 2006 08:42 PM PST
This is the 3rd lesson in the "Join The Revolution" series. In this lesson I deal with how someone actually joins the movement.
BTW, there will be no lesson posted next week. Join The Revolution Lesson 2: Revolutionary Love
February 16, 2006 08:08 AM PST
This is the second message in the series in which we deal with the revolutionary nature of the Love that is supposed to be a defining characteristic of our lives as followers of Jesus. It is admittedly heavily influenced by a lesson Rob Bell presented about the cross.
February 08, 2006 09:31 PM PST
This is the first lesson I did in a series called "Join the Revolution" where I talk about the revolutionary nature of Christianity. I plan on posting the whole series as I teach it. CLICK HERE for the notes. AE Welcome!
